This exclusive single-barrel release of 8-year-old bourbon from Bardstown was specially selected by The Whisky Exchange team. It's a rich and intense whiskey, run through with brown sugar and stewed fruit, as well as a touch of spicy and herbal rye.

In classic Bardstown fashion, we have stacks of information about the whiskey. It's a 78/10/12 mashbill of corn, rye and malted barley, sour mashed, fermented for three days in open-top fermenters, distilled in a 36" column still with a doubler to 130 proof, and then cut back to 120 proof before being filled into a single 53 gallon, new American-white-oak cask with a #3 char made by Independent Stave. The result is one of the best whiskies we've had from Bardstown, increasingly one the USA's most exciting whiskey makers.

Tasting Notes

- Nose
  Surprisingly restrained, with layers of brown sugar and baking spice to start, along with occasional flashes of maple. Lardy cake richness leads into raisin-studded fudge and bursts of treacle toffee. Dark mint chocolate chips and resinous dark oak hide at the back. With time in the glass, butter toffee notes appear.
- Palate
  Intense and rich, with the maple and brown sugar of the nose wrapped around raisins, baked apples, liquorice and blackcurrant. Herbal notes float in the centre: mint and fennel with a touch of green grass. Toffee sauce and a touch of char round things out.
- Finish
  Dark chocolate, molasses and mint linger.
